International Symposium on Human Factors and Ergonomics in Healthcare Conference Coverage Roundup
For the uninitiated, The International Symposium on Human Factors and Ergonomics in Health Care offers cutting-edge presentations, posters, and workshops on emerging issues in health care human factors and the challenges facing the industry in the near future.
The Health Care Symposium covers human factors and ergonomics applied to health care devices, environments, and end users in a format that allows for interaction and exchange of knowledge among participants and presenters.
We love this event and have covered it many times in year's past. Our first ever Human Factors Minute we produced was on the conference itself! Listen here:
Human Factors Cast was at the virtual component to the symposium this year, and this is a roundup of everything we covered from the conference.
Interview with Joe Keebler
We had the pleasure of sitting down with Joe Keebler (Chair of the symposium) to chat about this year's event(s), and we deviated from our traditional conference coverage format by expanding on it and talking about the future of Human Factors in Healthcare.
Themes explored at this year's conference
We also had several members of our Human Factors Cast Digital Media Lab attend the event and present their observations. Some of the themes we identified at the conference this year included:
- Adopting Human Factors and Ergonomics Frameworks to Improve Patient Safety
- Human Factors and Ergonomics in Device Design and Instruction
- Human Factors and Ergonomics for the Collaboration Between Humans and AI
- Human Factors and Ergonomics to Alleviate Workload
Explore these themes in more depth.
Trends from the Presentations
We also took a look at some of the trends with respect to evaluating and improving complex medical device systems. We recap some of the presentations given by Human Factors Researchers from Medtronic, Cambridge Consultants, UserWise, Inc., Orthogonal, as well as a discussion panel on The Human Factors of Connected Devices.
Read up on the full summaries and trends.
Looking Forward to 2023
While this year's event may be over, plans for next year's event are already underway. Next year's conference will take place from March 26-29, 2023 in Orlando, Florida, so make plans to submit a proposal and attend!
